Tampa Bay Engine Shop is an auto machine shop in Tampa, Florida. It is listed at 1717 E Busch Blvd, Tampa, FL 33612, which places it among the local businesses of Tampa that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Auto repair in the United States is split between independent shops, dealership service departments and national chains. Independents handle most routine work (oil changes, brakes, tune-ups, check-engine diagnostics) at lower labor rates and often specialize in one make or in imports; dealers keep factory tools, software and warranty authority; chains sell speed and standard pricing on maintenance items. Most shops charge a diagnostic fee, credited toward the repair if you go ahead, and quote parts and labor separately. Certification matters: look for ASE-certified technicians and, in many states, a state repair license posted at the counter. Written estimates are required by law in most states before work begins, and you are entitled to your old parts if you ask.
Hours are published for 5 days a week. The most common schedule is 9 amβ5 pm. Note that it does not open on Saturday, Sunday. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is tampabayengineshop.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

Tampa is in Florida, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Tampa is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Florida's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Ray did a fantastic job on my 2017 lemon suburban. Rebuilt the blown motor to do what it was made to do. Be an 8 cylinder all the time.

Called the shop and spoke to Ray about doing an engine rebuild for my Subaru Impreza. He told me he does not work on Subaru's, has never worked on Subaru's and won't work on them either. I'm sure this shop would have been a great place considering the past reviews I've read to get work done but won't get the chance to do so now. 2/5 stars for at least answering the phone but was dry over the phone. EDIT: After reading Ray's reply, I've updated my rating to reflect his effort in reaching out. I'm sorry to read about your loss and best wishes to you and your family. God Bless.

I brought my 1995 Z28 LT1 in for a rebuild. Revised 12/01/23 had to have my car towed home from the shop after the rebuild. It would not stay running after I brought it in. (The car ran and drove into the shop). I've replaced the fuel pump, coil, fuel lines tps sensor, iac sensor and a ton of other things all to no avail. My classic Z28 is now a paperweight sitting in my carport because "we don't know what's going on" has been their mantra. Go somewhere that knows what they're doing. I paid over $5,000 for something that sits covered by a car cover that does nothing. TLDR: Trash. Save your money.

Ray rebuilt my 430MEL motor out of a 1965 Lincoln Continental back in 2013. Best engine shop in town. Ray and his staff know what they are doing especially with older cars. They even fabricated a water inlet valve on the intake manifold because mine was corroded. He didn't even mention it or charge me, he just made it brand new again. 10 years later and it's still perfect.

Previously, I had an issue getting the engine rebuilt being told that they wouldn't service my 1987 Nissan D21 pick-up. After some back and forth, I was able to bring it in. Ray is a very cool guy and showed me around his shop initially and being mechanic-type, we had a lot to talk about. He helped keep me updated every step of the way and put on some extra stuff I brought like a new alternator and clutch since he was going to take it apart anyway. In a perfect world, it would've taken 2 weeks to get it done but there were some hiccups with some parts on the engine that ended up taking a month to get the truck done but overall I am pretty happy with the end result. I'm currently breaking in the engine and hopefully I won't have any issues down the road. He even painted the airbox for me since it was rusted to make it look nice π Ray is a very capable guy and if you get on his good side, he might show you his scrapbook full of cars he's worked on. Nice work, Ray. If I ever need another motor built, I'll bring it to you (assuming you'll work on it lol)
